Match Report
Ayr United looked the sharper side in a tight first half, and their pressure was rewarded just before the interval when Ben Summers finished neatly from the left side of the box after being set up by Kenzie Mitchell. The home side carried that advantage into the break at 1–0, having limited Arbroath to half-chances despite the visitors seeing more of the ball.
Arbroath tried to respond after the restart, but Ayr remained organised and continued to create the better openings. The decisive second goal arrived on 79 minutes, with Ross Taylor sweeping a right-footed shot into the bottom corner to end the contest.
The scoreline reflected Ayr’s greater cutting edge rather than a one-sided game, with the underlying numbers showing a fairly even contest in possession and shots, but Ayr finishing more clinically when it mattered most. Arbroath also left empty-handed despite registering several corners and a spell of pressure, while Ayr’s defensive shape and goalkeeping helped preserve the clean sheet
