Match Report

Ayr United made a strong finish to their League Cup Group G campaign with a convincing 4-1 victory over Alloa Athletic at Somerset Park on 25 July 2026. The result was settled by a ruthless first-half burst, as Ayr scored three times before the interval and never looked in serious danger thereafter.

The home side set the tone early and were rewarded in the 14th minute when Owen Stirton opened the scoring. Ayr quickly built on that advantage, with Kieran Shanks converting a penalty three minutes later before Stirton struck again on 37 minutes to put the game firmly in Ayr’s control.

Alloa improved after the break and found a response through Cameron O’Donnell on 59 minutes, but it proved only a consolation. Ayr remained composed and saw out the contest before Jamie Murphy added a fourth goal in the 84th minute to complete the scoring.

The final scoreline reflected Ayr’s authority across the 90 minutes, with the hosts efficient in front of goal and well placed in the group after a commanding opening win.
