Match Report
Ayr United pulled four points clear of the bottom two as Jordan Preston's goal secured victory over Forfar.
Goalkeeper Rab Douglas came to the visitors' rescue early on as he parried Craig Murray's shot to safety.
The winning goal arrived in the 35th minute when Preston collected a pass from David Robertson and found the bottom corner.
Martyn Fotheringham hit the bar and Darren Dods went close after the break but Forfar could not find an equaliser.
