Ayr United missed the chance to go top of the Scottish Championship as they lost to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
With leaders Ross County losing 4-0 at Queen of the South, victory would have taken Ian McCall's side to the summit on goal difference.
But the hosts' Jordan White headed in the winner midway through the second half for Inverness, who are up to fifth, a point from the play-offs.
Ayr meanwhile have now won just once in their last six games but remain second.
They trail Ross County by three points and are now level with Dundee United in third, but have a game in hand on both of their title rivals.
Inverness CT manager John Robertson: "It was an even first half, but the second half we started to impose ourselves. It was a terrific goal and I'm delighted for Jordan - what a job he does as a lone striker.
"We didn't look like we were going to lose a goal. There was a resilience to them and we thoroughly deserved the three points."
Ayr United manager Ian McCall: "We had good chances but I thought Inverness deserved to win. I don't think we played very well, nothing to do with injuries I just don't think we played well enough.
"I think the first goal was always going to win it. It was a great chance for us, we knew Ross County had a hard game but the league's going to be really, really tight."
