Match Report

Ayr started brightly and took the lead on nine minutes. Ross Taylor drove forward from midfield and slid a pass to Owen Stirton, who cut inside from the left and fired a low shot into the bottom corner for 1–0.

Livingston responded and were awarded a penalty on 19 minutes after a foul in the box; Robbie Muirhead stepped up and converted from the spot to level at 1–1.

Three minutes later Ayr were reduced to ten men when Ross Taylor was sent off for a second bookable offence, but the visitors regained the lead before half-time. On 36 minutes Stirton turned provider, playing a short pass to Luke McBeth who struck from the centre of the box into the bottom right corner for 2–1.

The second half saw Livingston apply sustained pressure, bringing on Stevie May and Graham Carey as they searched for an equaliser, but Ayr’s back line held firm and goalkeeper Harry Stone made several important interventions to preserve the win.
