Match Report
Stenhousemuir, league leaders going into the fixture, controlled the tempo early and took the lead on 20 minutes. A well-worked corner from the right found Sam Young at the near post; the 20-year-old centre-back rose highest to direct a firm header beyond Harry Stone into the top corner for 1–0.
Ayr responded with increased pressure after the break but struggled to create clear chances against a disciplined back three. The visitors’ goalkeeper Darren Jamieson was rarely troubled, while Stenhousemuir threatened on the counter through Gus Stevenson and Hamzad Kargbo.
Late changes from Gary Naysmith—including the introduction of Kieran Shanks and Ethan Walker—failed to produce an equaliser as Stenhousemuir held firm to extend their unbeaten start to the season.
