Match Report

Ayr made it two wins in a row, after defeating Arbroath 2-0 in a hard fought encounter at Somerset Park.

Kevin Kyle’s first goal for the club gave Ayr a half time lead before Adam Hunter notched after 74 minutes.

United now lie in third place putting a four point gap between them and The Red Lichties

After the match, Mark Roberts said: “In the first half, we didn’t play nearly as well as we can and could have been a couple of goals down.

“However, we scored before half time which was really pleasing.

“It was a grinding result which I’m delighted with. You can’t play well all the time so the fact we won 2-0 and had a clean sheet despite not being at our best is great.

“We looked tired at times and frustrated on the ball but to go four points in front of Arbroath is fantastic.

“I decided to play myself after passing a late fitness test which was a gamble. I came off after 65 minutes and my calf is really sore now, so I’ll let it fully heal before I play again.

“Kevin Kyle opened his account for Ayr through a great header from a Scott McLaughlin corner.

“Adam Hunter also got himself on the score sheet after finishing off a great move after a cross which he volleyed in with his left foot.

“Adam is more of a central midfielder but he’s been forced to play right back this season. He’s done well for us and I’m happy he was rewarded with a goal today.

The game also gave fans the opportunity to switch ends during the game and Roberts thought the initiative worked well.

He said: “I definitely noticed a better atmosphere despite the first half not being the greatest.”
