Stranraer moved up to eighth in Scottish League One after claiming their second victory in a row with a win over promotion chasers Ayr.
Scott Robertson headed wide early on while at the other end goalkeeper David McGurn saved brilliantly after Jordan Preston had burst through on goal.
It proved crucial intervention as the hosts took the lead when Jamie Longworth scored on the rebound.
Ayr pushed hard in the closing stages but could not find a way through.
