Match Report
Ayr United’s early pressure was rewarded just before the interval when Jamie Murphy converted from the spot to send the home side in 1–0 up, but Morton responded after the break and earned a valuable first point of the season through Brophy’s well-taken equaliser.
The visitors started brightly, forcing Ayr goalkeeper Harry Stone into an early save from a Calum Gallagher effort, but the Honest Men gradually grew into the game. The breakthrough came in the 44th minute when Murphy stepped up to score his penalty, giving Ayr a narrow lead at half-time.
Morton came out with more purpose after the restart and were level in the 63rd minute when Brophy found the net, assisted by Chris Sandilands, to make it 1–1. Both sides had chances to win it in a closely contested second half, but solid defending and some goalkeeping kept the scoreline level.
The result left Ayr on four points from three games, while Morton finally got on the scoreboard after three straight defeats.
