Match Report

Ayr United turned on the style to put four past Stenhousemuir and move closer to Premier Sports Cup progression.

The Honest Men moved on to six points in Group B after their win at Ochilview, and will finish above Dundee United if they win by three goals or more against Buckie Thistle on Saturday.

Ayr got off to the best possible start on Tuesday night, with George Oakley heading home a cross after just eight minutes.

Stenhousemuir equalised soon after, but the away side were back in front after 26 minutes when Frankie Musonda headed home from a Ben Dempsey cross.

Captain Anton Dowds got on the scoresheet 10 minutes after half time to make it 3-1 to United, as he headed home a flick-on from Oakley.

Jay Henderson put the icing on the cake on 65 minutes with another header, this time from a Jamie Murphy cross.

The thoughts of Scott Brown and his team now turn to Buckie Thistle on Saturday, with a resounding scoreline needed to try and make it to the knockout stages of the competition.
