Ayr United bounced back from their midweek defeat to Alloa Athletic with a comfortable 2–0 home victory over Arbroath, as player-manager Mark Roberts' side moved up the Scottish Second Division table.
The hosts took control early at Somerset Park, with Ayr United proving the sharper side from the whistle. Despite Arbroath manager Paul Sheerin's side showing signs of life in midfield, the visitors struggled to create clear-cut chances against a well-organised Ayr defence.
The breakthrough arrived when Ayr United's attacking pressure finally paid off. The home side's persistence in the final third created the opening they needed, and they made no mistake with the finish to take a deserved half-time lead.
Arbroath came out for the second half looking to mount a comeback, but Mark Roberts' men remained resolute defensively. The visitors struggled to break down a patient Ayr United backline that refused to give way.
Ayr United sealed the victory late in the game with a second goal, effectively ending any hopes Arbroath had of salvaging a point. The goal capped a well-worked team performance that saw Ayr United dominate possession and create the better chances throughout
