Match Report
Ayr United's return to the Scottish Championship ended in defeat against Raith Rovers.
Ross Callachan opened the scoring when he firmly headed a pinpoint Bobby Barr long ball, delivered from his own half.
The Honest Men battled gamely, with Paddy Boyle, Alan Forrest and Daryll Meggatt all giving Kevin Cuthbert cause for concern in the Raith goal.
But Ross Matthews doubled Raith's lead on the rebound after substitute Rudi Skacel's shot had been saved.
Ayr United are back in the second tier following a four-year absence after winning promotion via last season's play-offs.
