Bobby Flavell played for Airdrie, Hearts, Dundee, Kilmarnock and St.Mirren as well as Millionerios (Bogota). He also guested with Arsenal during wartime.
As Jacky Cox left on the Tuesday, Bobby Flavell was appointed on the Thursday 30th October 1961. His reign of 17 days was the shortest in Ayr United history. Directors were very impressed with his credentials. After two matches in charge of Ayr, St.Mirren, the club he had left as a coach immediately prior to taking up the managers post at Somerset Park, gave him a call to from two St Mirren directors to meet in an Ayr hotel, he thought for transfer talks.
They offered him the vacant St Mirren managerial job instead which he accepted resigning as Ayr manager on 16th December 1961.
