Adamson played for several clubs including Dundee, Greenock Morton, Muirkirk, Raith Rovers, and St Mirren. He also had a brief spell with Ayr United, signing on February 4, 1970. During his time with Ayr United, he made 7 appearances. His first manager at Ayr United was Albert Henderson.
