Scott Brown kicked off his tenure as Ayr United head coach with victory as his new side edged out 10-man Queen's Park at Hampden.
Jamie Murphy put the visitors in front shortly before the break, but Callum Davidson's men replied just after the hour through Ruari Paton.
The hosts went down to 10 men two minutes later, though, when Sean Welsh was shown a second yellow card.
And Ayr took advantage as Mark McKenzie went on to net a 74th-minute winner.
The victory moves Brown's side up a place to sixth, three points off a play-off place and six clear of Queen's in ninth.
