Division 1 – Season Nullified, But Scottish Cup Win for Ayr

The onset of World war two effectively ended the footballing season. With only six matches of the season completed the tn_Hearts (a) 26 Aug 1939official Division 1 fixtures were abandoned. A regional league system continued with clubs pulling players from whatever source they could.

The Scottish Cup campaign was billed as a second eleven Scottish Cup campaign although Ayr United would argue that first team players from all clubs were used and therefore United’s Cup Final victory against Aberdeen meant that Ayr had in effect won the Scottish Cup.
