St John’s made the trip to Ayr for a end of season friendly on 30th April 1975. The Honest Men were already 5-0 ahead at half time and the final score of 6-0 showed a considerable amount of slackening of by the home side in the second half.

Some may have said that St John’s were gluttons for punishment because they again lined up against Ayr United on 1st July 1975 during United’s second tour of Canada. The outcome was, not surprisingly, a huge win for Ayr – this time by 8-1.
