Full Results Against Otelul Galati

Otelul Galati was formed in 1964. After a brief period in which their town rivals Dunarea were the prominent club, Oțelul emerged as the main footballing force of the region. The club was first promoted to the Liga 1 in 1986 and in 1988 made its debut in the UEFA Cup with a 1–0 victory against Italian side Juventus. The club reached the 2004 final of the Romanian Cup but lost against Dinamo Bucharest.

Oțelul had 23 seasons of Liga 1 football at the time they played Ayr. They are also the 2nd best Moldovan team in this ranking, being surpassed only by FCM Bacau.

They clinched their first Liga 1 title on 15 May 2011 following a 2–1 victory over Politehnica Timisoara, qualifying for the group stages of the – 2011/12 UEFA Champions League, their debut in this competition. They played Manchester United, Benfica and Basel in the group stage, but failed to win a single point. The club won its first Romanian Supercup in 2011 after a 1-0 victory over rivals Steaua Bucharest.

Ayr United took them on at Leigh Sports Arena near Manchester on 5th July 2013 with a team consisting of Hutton,Hunter,Lithgow,McArthur(Trialist),Pope,Merenghi,McLaughlin,McGowan,Donald,Moffat,Malcolm.

The Romanians looked classy from the start and United ‘keeper Hutton had to look sharp. He kept Ayr in the match on a few occasions whildt little was seen of the Honest men up front. In 14 minutes however Otelul did score and this led to a 1-0 advantage at half time. An unlikely deflection in the second half led gave the Romanians a 2-0 lead which was the final score.
