Match Report

Arbroath produced a spectacular team performance to defeat Ayr United who went into the match having won their first 3 league matches and scoring 32 goals in 9 competitive matches.

Straight from Kick off it was clear the Lichties were in the mood. Ricky Little almost opened the scoring when he had a shot cleared off the line before Hart pulled off a close range save from Swankie but as half time approached Higgins found the back of the net but the Arbroath game plan didn’t change and Omar Kader dinked the ball over Hart to pull level on the stroke of half time.

Arbroath continued to push in the second half and Swankie was again denied from a volley from Hart but it was a spectacular chip from Skipper Mark Whatley from 25 yards out that flew past Hart and into the top corner.

The Lichties defence stood up to everything with Ricky Little and Thomas O’Brien commanding at the back with Colin Hamilton coming close to adding a 3rd for the Lichties.
