Full Results Against Leicester City

Season 1973/74 saw Ayr United once again start in the Scottish First division and once again in the Texaco tn_Leicester City (a) 3 Oct 73 TC1 2LCup bagging a first round tie against Leicester City, Peter Shilton and all.

Leicester City are a football club from the city of Leicester in England. Formed in 1884 as Leicester Fosse, the club are most famous for their surprise Premier League title in 2016.

Unlike the previous season when Ayr United had a tremendous win over Newcastle United, Leicester City were a very in form side. Despite this, United produced a tremendous display in the first leg and a 1-1 draw at Somerset Park was well earned.

This result gave hope and United headed for Filbert Street for the second leg.

A superb display from United in the second leg was not enough and the night ended in a 2-0 defeat for Ayr at City’s Filbert Street.

Programmes were produced for both these Texaco Cup matches with Leicester City publishing a landscape design.

United also played Leicester City in a friendly match on 4th August 1988 at Somerset Park, a match which finished 4-2 for the English side.
