Results Against Gwardia Warsaw

Warszawski Klub Sportowy Gwardia Warszawa (also known as Gwardia Warsaw) are a football club from the city of Warsaw in Poland founded in 1948, their biggest success was finishing 2nd in the Polish Championship in 1957 season. They played in the Polish 1st League at the time of their visit to Ayr.

Gwardia Warsaw’s arrival at Somerset Park on 15th March 1972 was a welcome break from the harsh realities of league football.

The novelty of Polish football at Ayr attracted a crowd of 5,000.

If United thought that this would be a walk in the park they were wrong as the Poles were slick and methodical, if a bit cynical at times, and showed why they had been involved in European competition in previous years. Szymczak scored the opener in 19 minutes and he made it 2-0 in the 89th minute.

The only surprise about the scoreline was that the Poles stopped at 2-0.
