Full Results Against Girvan

Girvan Football Club are a Scottish football club based in the town of Girvan, South Ayrshire. Nicknamed the Seasiders and currently play at Hamilton Park

No team existed until 1884 when again Girvan F.C. was founded, but this team folded in 1887.

It would be another 5 years before Girvan Athletic F.C. was formed in 1892 and this team lasted until 1939. Incredibly during this period Girvan had 3 teams playing in the town, the other two playing at Junior Level. Girvan Athletic F.C. played in Light Blue Jerseys from 1892 to 1909 they then changed colours to Blue and Gold until 1912 when they changed colours again to Black and Gold through to 1917.

They wore Black and Red until 1921 and again changed colours to Blue and Gold right up to they were disbanded in 1939 presumably because of the Second World War, it seemed strange however that they played for most of the First World War.

This team entered the Scottish Cup in 1892 to 1897 and again in 1923, indeed this was the most successful Scottish Cup team having managed to reach the Girvan (h) 23 Apr 97 (TS)3rd Round. Records show that they played in The Scottish Combination League between 1908 and 1911 and were crowned Joint League Champions with Nithsdale Wanderers F.C. in 1910. The only other record shows that they entered the Scottish Alliance League in 1939 but the League was never completed that year.

One team was called Girvan Athletic Juniors F.C. and were founded in 1910 but only lasted one year till 1911 this team was Girvan’s first Junior Club. The other team was called Girvan F.C. and was founded in 1922 – 1929 becoming Girvan’s second Junior side, they played in the South Ayrshire Junior Football League Division 2 in the 1926 – 1927 season and were promoted to the 1st Division playing in this League until 1929. In 1944 the current team was formed again as Girvan Amatuers F.C. and once again as a Senior Club, changing their name to Girvan F.C. in 1978.

Between 1944 and 1961 their colours were all white and then changing colours to all Royal Blue. They played in the South of Scotland League between 1950 to 1962 and again between 1975 and 2004 when once again they joined the Junior set up for the third time.

They currently play in the Scottish Junior Football Association, West Region.

Girvan (a) 15 July 02 (FR)Girvan FC encountered Ayr United for the first time on 28th February 1911 at Somerset Park in a Scottish Consolation Cup 2nd round. Ayr United showed their overwhelming superiority with a 7-1 victory.

The clubs met again on 15th April 1911 in an Ayrshire Cup semi-final in Ayr United’s first visit to Hamilton Park, Girvan. Ayr United recorded a 4-0 win.

The clubs met again on 6th April 1912 at Somerset Park and United recorded a 7-0 victory in an Ayrshire Cup semi-final.The following season Ayr made short work of Girvan in the Scottish Qualifying Cup 3rd round winning by 3-0 at Somerset Park on 12th October 1912.

By the turn of the century the short journey down the Ayrshire Coast from Girvan to Ayr had become a world apart in terms of distance in footballing termsGirvan (a) 28 Jul 04 (FR).

Girvan faced the modern might of Ayr United in some 1970s friendlies with United hitting home 12 in a friendly in 1978. Girvan experienced some heavy Ayrshire Cupdefeats including a 10-0 thrashing in 1983 and 8-0 the following season. On 30th August 1992 the teams lined up at Girvan’s tiny Hamilton Park and Girvan faced an onslaught as United again showed no mercy, running out 6-0 winners to go into the Ayrshire Cup Final.

Two years later, on 9th November 1994, the teams met at Ayr in the cup semi-final – different venue, same score – 6-0 for Ayr.

Some respite was had for Girvan in a friendly on 24th July 1995 at Hamilton Park when they lost 2-1 to Ayr, but on 23rd April 1997 and Girvan were searching for Ayrshire Cup glory yet again, this time failing by 7-0 to Ayr at Somerset Park.

Hamilton Park was the venue on 15th July 2002 when two Kean goals and one from McVeigh saw United record another win, this time by 3-0.

Girvan joined the junior ranks for the 2004/05 season and celebrated their ‘promotion’ with a pre-season friendly against Ayr on 28th July 2004 with the Honest Men winning by 2-1.
