Match Report

Ayr United lost the leadership of the Scottish Championship as they were held to a goalless draw by Dunfermline at East End Park.

Lawrence Shankland, who has 28 goals in 24 games this season, missed a glorious late chance to win it, steering wide from a few yards out.

Michael Moffat also missed a chance for the visitors, but it was Dunfermline who had the majority of shots on goal.

Kallum Higginbotham and Jackson Longridge went close for the hosts.

Dunfermline manager Allan Johnston: "It was a hard fought game but we probably edged it.

"We're still struggling with scoring goals. That's been the problem since the start and it puts the rest of the team under pressure, but there are lots of positives against the team that's top of the league."

Ayr manager Ian McCall: "I didn't enjoy watching it - it was poor and we were poor. We didn't do well enough, but it's a draw and we move on.

"We are a point behind Ross County but have a game in hand but every game now is tough and I think it will tighten the league right up."
