Match Report

Ayr United are two points clear at the Scottish Championship summit after trouncing Morton at Cappielow.

Ayr scored four goals in 16 second-half minutes after Ross Doohan conceded then saved Michael Tidser's penalty.

Lawrence Shankland netted twice to take his season's tally to 17. Craig Moore also scored a double, with Declan McDaid completing the rout.

United are two points above Ross County after seven games. Morton, who scored through Charlie Telfer, sit sixth.

Ayr United manager Ian McCall: "Ross saves the penalty which he gave away with a great save and after that, every time we got up the park, we looked like scoring goals.

"We got five and should have scored more. I don't know what team to pick next week against Dundee United - the real pleasing thing for us today was that a lot of boys got on who hadn't had a lot of game time and showed they are totally and utterly ready to play."

Morton manager Jonatan Johansson: "It was really poor defending. We capitulated after they scored their second - it's unacceptable.

"We completely lost our shape. Ayr play their system very well, work really hard and have two really good strikers. But up until the second goal we handled it quite well."
