Kilmarnock edged to the top of the Scottish Championship after Oli Shaw's dramatic 89th-minute penalty decided the Ayrshire derby at Somerset Park.
In front of a raucous crowd of around 6000, Tommy Wright's side came out on top when Shaw kept his nerve to convert from the spot after Markus Fjortoft fouled Fraser Murray.
It was just a second win in five for last season's relegated side, but it moves them above Inverness Caledonian Thistle on goals scored, while Ayr stay in sixth - five points off the bottom.
The victory was merited for Kilmarnock, who had the better of the play and better chances, particularly in the second half. And ultimately Shaw's goal was the difference, not only on the night but in the table too.
