Match Report

A spectacular first half-volley by Steven Kelly earned Ayr United maximum points against Queen of the South.

The first-time strike flashed past Robbie McCrorie for the only goal in a match littered with good chances.

Among the sinners, unusually, was Stephen Dobbie - back after injury- who ballooned the ball out the stadium with the miss of the season.

Mind you, the veteran striker would surely have taken a tap-in when Faissal El Bakhtaoui chose to shoot rather than play the pass when they were two-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Queens weren't helped by the 15th minute injury to Gary Oliver and the consequent reshuffle of their team.

But it did look at times like Allan Johnston's team who were wearing replica strips of their first game against 100 years ago might need another century to score.
