Biography

Herbert Dainty was an English football player and manager who was the first manager of Ayr United, having been appointed on 6th May 1914. Already a centre half at the club since October 1913 he became player-manager at age 35. He continued playing after his appointment as manager which also made him the club's first player manager.

Before joining Ayr Herbert had played for many clubs including Leicester Fosse, Southampton and Dundee, with whom he received a Scottish Cup winner's medal in 1910. On quitting Ayr United he joined Dundee Hibernian because he had a business in Dundee. He later coached in South America.
